Portion Guide

The amount of portions you get from a cake differs depending on whether it is round or square, if it is served as a main dessert or as a buffet sized portion and of course who cuts the cake!
Please see below for a portion guide of our most frequently requested cake sizes.
Ordinarily our cake tiers are 3.5 inches deep and our servings are based on either finger sized portions (1 x 1 x 3.5 inches) or dessert portions (1 x 2 x 3.5 inches).

CUTTING YOUR CAKE
When cutting your cake, please note the following:
-
Your cakes need to be cut with care. Fruit cakes and carrot cakes could crumble if not handled carefully.
-
It is advisable to use a long bladed serrated knife, which must be SHARP - the ornamental cake cutting knives used for photos are usually nowhere near sharp enough.
-
Use a sawing action with the serrated blade - don't just push the knife downwards - and make sure to cut all the way to the base board.
-
After each cut use a clean damp cloth to clean and moisten the blade - this will help stop the knife dragging on the cake crumb.

Portion guide sizes are:
Fruit Cake 2.5cm (1 inch) square
Sponge Cake 5cm x 2.5cm (2 inch x 1 inch)
